Book Review: The Mime Order

The Mime order is the second book of the series and Samantha Shannon has worked hard to take the story she started in The Bone Season forward and make it a more engrossing read.

Series: The Bone Season #2

PLOT:  Paige has successfully escaped from the prison that is Sheol I, but the experience has changed her forever. She has to make tough choices, about whether she has to go back to her old life, or create a new order. Also, the people around her do not know about the Rephiates, so making them aware is her first priority. She along with the few people who had escaped with her, try to make sense of what is happening around them.

CHARACTERS:  Paige is changing, and growing up to take on the reins of the new order. From the Mime Lord’s Mollisher to the Mime Queen is a long journey for her. Jax hates losing control over his favourite character, and as we get to learn more of him, it is harder to like him. Nick is Paige’s best friend and biggest support. The rest of the crew are a mix of loyalists, and people who are there just to look out for themselves. The Rephas, we get to see and know more about them in this book.

WHAT I LIKED: The manner in which Paige goes from being Mollisher to Mime Queen, is written so well, the last few chapters are the biggest treat. The cover of this book is such a work of art. The high points of the book are the heartbreak of having to chose between friends, the fight for good, the realisation that it is not power that Paige chooses but her destiny chooses Paige.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: The book talks about Nashira, but she seems to be missing in action, except for the last chapter. It would have been fun to see her a bit more in the book.

RATING: With the amazing twist added in the end I am looking forward to read the third edition of the book. I rate The Mime Order, 4 on 5 starts for being interesting, and surprising. I have a few guesses as to what will happen, but Samantha Shannon has managed to surprise me with the first two books, and I will have to wait for the third book to know for sure. Until to all the lovers of this genre this is a must read series. You can Pre Order the copies of The Mime Order at Amazon or Flipkart.
