The Change

We met, We spoke, we loved,

Didn’t care for the problems,

You showed me what I can be,

To believe in myself and how,

To be strong and confident,

To fight my battles till the end.

Then what changed,

What went wrong,

When It was time,

For you to be strong,

To be brave and fight,

You lost all the sight.

Or did I misjudge you, was I wrong,

In believing you all along,

To forgive you when you put me down,

To hear things right when they were wrong,

To see only what I wanted to see,

You were never the person I thought you’d be.

The strength and the confidence was in me,

The truth, comes out eventually,

It was never good, you were never right,

What I wanted to be, coloured my sight,

The changes I made, the battles I won,

They all came from within me, not from anyone.

  1. I simply love this…every bit. Just love it! ♥

    1. Thanks Kathy. <3

  2. Lovely and this is so true. It begins within and that’s what we all fail to notice. Great reminder Jaibala.

    1. Parul Thank You 🙂 we often forget ourselves easily dont we

  3. Well expressed! Loved the line, ”They all came from within me, not from anyone” How true! 🙂

  4. We are responsible for our own success, but it is so easy to give credit to someone else, if we are harsh critics of ourselves. People do help us, yes, but sometimes there are those who demand credit and convince us he/she helped even when they didn’t.

    1. Agreed. It is easy to be swayed especially by people we trust and we look up to. And we are our worst critics, we need to learn to love ourselves and know what we can do.

  5. The whole ocean is in a drop…somehow your poem reminded me of this truth. All the strength, hope, beauty, inspiration begins from within. And yet how often we forget this fundamental truth and look for support outside of us. Beautifully penned, Jaibala!

    1. Thank You Beelo. I am a strong believer in the power of you, but there was a time when I’d always look to others for support. It is easier to think that “someone will do it for us”.

  6. Jai, I agree with NJ 😉 Completely, unequivocally 😀

  7. I agree with Fathima completely!

  8. Superb one, Jai. It stuck a cord. We all beleive someone is the reason for our success, yet it is all within us. ‘ they all come within me, not anyone’ that’s a thought provoking line…. Well don, dr…

    1. Thanks Fathi. We have to learn to believe and trust ourselves first. Pay ourselves first 🙂
